For culture vultures - The Galway International Arts Festival #GIAF, is one of the most important cultural events in Europe. During a whirlwind two weeks every July, 16th – 29th July 2018, writers, musicians, performers and artists descend on the city in a creative collision. A showstopper of a festival with a host of world-class theatre, music, visual art, talks and street theatre for all ages to enjoy.

Become a history buff and explore the history and culture of Galway courtesy of the weeklong National Heritage Week programme from 18th – 26th August. Each year events range from medieval fairs, night-time bat walks, wildlife walks and lectures, classical music and poetry recitals, traditional music sessions, storytelling, historical re-enactments, and local history walks and talks. The Galway Oyster Festival, the world’s longest running oyster festival returns from 28th – 30th September. A celebration of seafood, each year this festival attracts crowds who want to get a taste of the unique Galway oysters.
With the World Oyster Opening Championships and a Gala Mardi Gras that visits different venues throughout the evening, starting with an Oyster and Prosecco reception, parading to the second venue for a starter course and finish up at the final venue for main course, desert and dancing ’till the wee hours!
